On June 15, 2017, the Catalan Parliament approved an Act for the Universalization of Health Care, a regulation that will allow access to the public system of all persons residing in Catalonia, irrespective of their legal status.
In practice, it represents that illegal immigrants will be able to have all Public Health services and not, only, the Emergencies or Births, as before.
This Law will only be in force in Catalonia, since the rest of the Spanish State, maintains the regulations, approved in 2012, which excludes illegal immigrants from habitual healthcare, providing only emergency services.
In order to be eligible for these services in Catalonia, the applicant must be registered or accredited, although the latter system has not been defined by law.
